AGRICULTURAL ENGINEER
SALARY RANGE of $65,315.00 - $100,976.00 PA

The USDA-ARS, is seeking an Agricultural Engineer for the Soil & Water Research Unit located in Baton Rouge, LA. The duty station for this position is Houma, LA. The Units mission is to develop new technology and management guidelines for the sustainable bio-energy production systems from energy-cane (sugar cane varieties most suitable for energy-fuel production) for humid temperate and subtropical environments, particularly in the lower Mississippi River basin. Incumbents personal research is to develop and evaluate a suite of integrated Best Management Practices (BMP) for soil, water, crop and agrochemicals to optimize the production of energy-cane, while minimizing negative impacts to the quality of drainage waters, minimizing sediment and nutrient loss and potential erosion and/or subsidence of associated coastal ecosystems, maintaining soil fertility, and maximizing soil carbon storage.
